From Swamp to Stage: Shrek The Musical At The Wales Millennium Centre | PR Preview and Review"

Step into a world of whimsy, laughter, and heart-warming fun as we explore the enchanting realm of Shrek The Musical at the Wales Millennium Centre.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the press night of Shrek The Musical at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff,

and I was overjoyed to bring along my son who is my little Shrek enthusiast and relive the joy I've felt for many years watching the Shrek Film.

Shrek The Musical | Mother Of Grom

The excitement in the air was electric as we stepped into the iconic venue situated by the beautiful Cardiff Bay. The Wales Millennium Centre, with its ability to change the colour of its front façade – tonight shining a brilliant green in honour of Shrek – is truly an iconic landmark situated in the beautiful Cardiff Bay. Inside the theatre, the use of hardwoods sourced from sustainable Welsh woodlands and the intricate design elements, such as the black pillars with fern-like fossil patterns, added to the magical atmosphere is the reason why this is undoubtedly one of my favourite venues worldwide.

The show itself was nothing short of incredible, and the audience's enthusiastic response was a testament to its brilliance. The use of a dynamic, moving imagery background on the stage added a captivating dimension to Shrek's story. The cast, led by the perfectly cast Antony Lawrence as Shrek, delivered a such a wonderful performance. The standout vocal performances from Brandon Lee Sears (Donkey), Cherece Richards (Dragon), and the surprising revelation of Joanne Clifton (Princess Fiona) – whose incredible dancing I noted without initially realising her identity ( I used to compete as a Latin dancer against Jo's brother many moons ago so when I realised after the show it was her it put the biggest smile on my face) – were exceptional and had my retired dancer's feet itching to join in. However, the true scene-stealer for me was James Gillan, whose portrayal of Lord Farquaad had me in stitches; his comedic timing was impeccable and truly made the show for me.

The soundtrack of Shrek The Musical effortlessly weaves a melodic tapestry, enhancing the enchanting narrative with a harmonious blend of catchy tunes that linger in the heart long after the final curtain falls.

Shrek The Musical at the Wales Millennium Centre is an absolute triumph. I wholeheartedly recommend catching this enchanting production. With its tour extending into 2024, check the dates and make sure not to miss this theatrical masterpiece.
