From breath-taking alpine views to charming villages, this is the story of how our family turned a simple road trip into an epic odyssey, one that allowed us to truly experience the heart and soul of this mesmerising country.

I have compiled a list of our special stops to help you if you're thinking of doing this route by yourself or with your family or friends.

Triesenberg‍

Nestled in the heart of the Alps, Triesenberg greeted us with panoramic views that took our breath away. Our van found a cosy spot overlooking the village, allowing us to soak in the alpine beauty and enjoy serene sunsets that painted the sky with hues of orange and pink.

Walensee‍

As we continued our expedition, Walensee's crystal-clear waters beckoned us for a refreshing break. Our van parked along the shoreline, granting us front-row seats to the lake's shimmering waters. The kids splashed in the water while we soaked up the surrounding mountains that overlooked us.

‍Brienzersee

‍The enchanting Brienzersee was heaven sent. Our van perched near the tranquil shores, providing us with uninterrupted views of the crystal clear lake and the charming villages that dotted its edges. It is an unmissable spot for vanlifers.

Lauterbrunnen / Mürren‍

The Lauterbrunnen Valley unveiled its awe-inspiring beauty as we parked our van in this idyllic setting. From there, we hopped on a cable car to Mürren, where snow-capped peaks surrounded us. Check out the incredible flower trail and Allmendhubel Flower Park Playground.

Thunersee

‍Our van found a cosy spot by the lake, allowing us to indulge in leisurely breakfasts on the rocks with the Swiss Alps as our backdrop. The tranquillity of the surroundings and the crisp mountain air were a treat for our souls.

Grindelwald / Pfingsteg

‍Adventure awaited us in Grindelwald, where our van's journey continued. We parked near Pfingsteg and embarked on exhilarating hikes, surrounded by towering peaks and lush meadows. The children's excitement was contagious as we explored the trails, discovered hidden gems along the way and went on the taboggan run.

Gelmerbahn / Gelmersee‍

The Gelmerbahn funicular ride was an absolute highlight of our trip. Our van parked nearby, and we soared up the mountainside to reach Gelmersee, a turquoise gem nestled in a rugged valley. The van trip had brought us to this magical place, where nature's grandeur was on full display.

Onwards and Upwards into Germany / Horb am Neckar‍

Our Swiss adventure was drawing to a close, but the enchantment continued as we crossed into Germany. Horb am Neckar welcomed us with its medieval charm, and our van found its place amidst history-laden streets. The trip had seamlessly taken us from one picturesque setting to another.

As our family van journey through Switzerland comes to a close, we're left with a treasure trove of memories that will forever be etched in our hearts. As we bid farewell to the Swiss landscapes that embraced us with their beauty, we carry with us a newfound appreciation for the magic of family van life and the routes that lead us to places we never could have imagined.
